Dissolved air flotation is an excellent high turbidity wastewater treatment equipment that clarifies wastewater by removing of suspended solids. It is now widely used in wastewater treatment to remove TSS, Oil, Grease, Turbidity, Color, Colloids, COD, BOD, etc. to achieve solid-liquid separation and liquid-liquid separation.

The removal is achieved by dissolving air into wastewater under pressure and then releasing the air to atmospheric pressure in flotation tank. Wastewater to DAF unit firstly access into a flocculation reaction chamber. Dose flocculant and coagulant there for flocculation reaction. Two agitators are installed inside it to mix the dosed chemical reagent with the feeding wastewater properly.

The micro suspended solids and colloidal particles in wastewater will be conglomerated into bigger clusters. A portion of clarified effluent water leaving the DAF tank is pumped into a small pressure vessel (saturator) into which compressed air is also introduced. This process saturates pressurized effluent water with air under pressure (2.5-4 kg/cm2).

The air-saturated effluent water is recycled to the front of the float tank and flows through a pressure reduction valve and air-saturated water releaser just as it enters the front of the float tank. This immediately results in the air-saturated effluent water becoming supersaturated with air as millions of tiny bubbles form. These millions of tiny bubbles attach to the solids entering the DAF tank, causing them to float to the surface where they are retained.

The floated solids will then form a sludge layer on the water surface, and the sludge layer will be subsequently removed by DAF skimmer at DAF tank top and be discharged through DAF scum outlet. The purified water will flow through an overflow weir and be discharged through DAF water outlet.
