Lamella Clarifier Working Principle

Lamella Clarifier works on the basis of shallow tank theory.
Unlike the conventional sedimentation tank, lamella clarifier uses a series of inclined plates. These plates provide a large effective settling area for a small footprint. Raw water firstly enters into lamella plate pack through water inlet, and then is distributed uniformly by water distribution system which is installed under the clarifier medium-----lamella tube pack or lamella plate pack.

As the water flows between pairs of plates, the heavy solids with a specific gravity larger than the surrounding water begin to settle onto the top surface of the lower plate, and slide down the inclined surface to be collected into sludge hopper. The clarified water exits the clarifier from the top by overflowing the weir.
